Suzanna Hetts, PhD, author of Pet Behavior Protocols

The exercises work!, February 8, 2011
Reviewer: Sarah
Last year, we started to feed raw to our 5 month old puppy. He had exhibited very mild resource guarding with a trachea chewy once before, but I thought it was a one time event. He never had a problem with his toys or kibble. While giving him his first drumstick, he became *very* possessive: growling, stiff body, etc. Totally shocking.
Anyway, the book may be small but the exercises are extremely helpful, well organized, informative, and easy to read.
Now that my dog is 15 months old, he will readily 'drop it' right away, which is quite amazing and exciting. :) |

Fantastic book, February 5, 2011
Reviewer: Nick Hof, CPDT
This book is written with such simplicity but is incredibly detailed. Specific steps are written to work with dogs that have problems with: food bowl guarding; toy/forbidden object guarding; location guarding; & body handling issues.
Each issue has it's own set of step-by-step instructions that make it incredibly easy to follow through and understand. The book also includes exercises for preventing these types of issues in dogs. All of this wonderful information, and Jean Donaldson still manages to fit it into 100 pages without leaving anything out.
This is the most comprehensive book on this subject and is recommended for dog trainers and pet owners alike.

Practical Steps to Take, October 21, 2010
Reviewer: DogCatcher
Very specific steps to take to solve resource guarding. Theory on how and why is great. Theory on relationships and treatment is great, too. This book actually tells you what to do, when. Sweet!
