As the inventor of Treibball, Jan Nijboer has made a great contribution to the field of dog sports. Treibball is a low-impact, low-cost, positive dog sport that any dog and owner/handler can play and learn to excel in. Treibball for Dogs is Jan's first English translated DVD on the sport, and is valuable not only for his insight into the sport, but even more for his emphasis on using Treibball as a vehicle to enhance the dog/owner bond through shared fun and improved communication.
Jan's focus on the 'dog-human' connection in Treibball is emphasized throughout each exercise shown; establishing the all-postive connection between the game activity with the balls and the dogs' attention to the handler. While some of these exercises may differ from what's being taught here in the U.S., there's much to be learned and admired in Jan's teaching. All the exercises are presented in a calm and gentle manner, with great care given to postioning the dogs and their handlers (each with differing skills and temperament) for success.
Since all dog owners and trainers can benefit by learning something new, I recommend this video as a teaching tool, to broaden your approach to the game and to add to your training toolbox. This DVD will spur you to think creatively about the game; and since Treibball is a problem-solving sport, that's a great contribution. |

| For just a bit of an exposure to treibball, you might find this DVD ok. For detailed information on what the sport is and how to train for it, you won't get what you want from this DVD. I was highly disappointed. My nondoggy husband watched the whole thing wanting to see a complete run and only found bits and pieces. I didn't find this to be worth the cost of the DVD. |
