Expanded Description:
Norwegian dog trainer Turid Rugaas is a noted expert on canine body language, notably “calming signals” which are signals dogs give other dogs and humans that denote stress. These are dogs’ attempt to defuse situations that otherwise might result in fights or aggression. The DVD shows footage of many calming signals, how dogs use them, and how you can use them to calm your dog.
This is the DVD format and companion to the popular book, "On Talking Terms with Dogs." Note - this is not a professionally filmed DVD rather one done by dedicated amateur dog people; however, it does a good job of illustrating the canine body language subjects it addresses.

It's good information but the video is poor qualit, March 21, 2009

The video has very good information, however, it is hard to understand what she is saying plus there is allot of background noise. The video is good to watch after you read the book so you understand what you are seeing.

Video gives concise explanations of calming signals and gives examples of dogs using them - excellent learning tool for any trainer.

'Calming Signals' is great, September 11, 2008

I have read the book and seen the video. As a trainer and kennel worker, I learned more through this material about effectively communicating and reading dogs than I had through other books. I've read many books and seen DVD's on dog training which included some of this information, but she puts it all in one place which better enabled me to be more concsious of what I'm seeing and projecting while interacting with a dog. Thanks, Turid! It's a small book but with huge payoffs. I recommend it to anyone who interacts with dogs in any capacity.
