Authors Zinn and Sternberg provide detailed explanations of human body language and the nonverbal conversations we are always having with our dogs. This book teaches the human half of the team how to fully support and trust the canine half of the team, so together they can experience the wonder of engaging in the dog's olfactory world.

Dana Zinn began her dog training career in 1998. She crafted her skills while volunteering, and eventually working at a shelter in Los Angeles. She then started her own dog training business where she helped clients with issues ranging from puppy training to aggression. Dana has studied under and worked with some of the top trainers and behaviorists in the country.

Sue Sternberg has devoted her personal and professional life to helping dogs and people live together happily. She is the author of numerous books and DVDs on dog adoption, canine body language and behavior, especially aggression. The Dog Driven Search

I love this book and recommend it to others just for the leash work and handling knowledge. This ubiquitous yet, undertrained skillset has needed this book for a long time. For what is one thing all dogs do when on leash? Scent! Thank you Sue Sternberg and Dana Zinn.

Hands down (and noses up) - best book written for those who enjoy Nosework and love their dogs. We play because we love to watch our canine companions search so why not ensure it’s fun for them, too? Because when the humans get out of the way and let the experts lead, everyone succeeds. A definitive masterpiece!

Dog Driven Drive-couldn’t put it down

Posted by Nikki Thull on 7th Mar 2024

Sue and Dana’s creative illustrations and scenarios have opened my eyes to keys of supporting my dog’s drive. I’ve gained immense clarity in the importance of my handling skills and Learned to make deposits into my dog’s “bank of joy and enthusiasm.” I started this journey in nose work with a less confident dog and after putting the gems of knowledge from Sue and Dana’s book into practice. My dog is driving this wonderful sport and his enthusiasm is felt through the leash. Like our leash, I can’t put this book down!

    Game Changer!

Posted by Vickey Guess on 6th Mar 2024

This book has opened my eyes to how much my handling can either support or hinder my dog's search performance. After watching some cringe-worthy trial videos of myself, I realized how often my subtle body cues were influencing my dog's search behavior (and not often in a good way). Using the book's suggestions, I've started to clean up and "quiet" my handling techniques and my dog seems much more sure of herself and is not looking back at me so much (which I would sometimes mistake for an indication on a hide). And to those of us for whom Container searches are especially problematic, the chapter on handling during those searches has been a game-changer.

This is the best investment in your dog you will ever make. Everything is clear and leads you to an enthusiastic and joyous time with your dog. I instituted their principles in classes and couldn’t believe the improved atmosphere and understanding the dogs had! You can’t go wrong with this book!

I had no idea the messages I was giving my dog without knowing I was doing that - I’m so grateful to learn how to keep the joy in the search
