When I decided to get into obedience with my agility dog, I wasn't sure where to start. I took a mentor's advice and ordered this book. WOW! EVERY exercise for AKC obedience is explained and broken down in this book. There are many helpful pictures and diagrams, and it is EASY to understand and train these methods yourself. Read this cover to cover!

While I have a number of books on dog training - many of them quite good - increasingly I find this is my 'go to' book when I encounter a problem or begin training a new task. Recommend it for any competitive obedience trainer's bookshelf.

We found this book to be extremely helpful. Originally, we bought the book because of retrival problems- the dog would not have anything to do with the dumbell. The earpinch method was not an option. After less than 3 weeks our dog is retriving the dumbell from a distance and over the jump, returning to front and waiting for the 'give' command. But since owning what is now referred to as our dog training 'bible' we are backing up and retraining some other areas such as off-leash heeling which has been an ongoing issue. I especially like the proofing sections to really see if the exercise was learned.
