Nutrition is a sensitive and sometimes controversial subject in veterinary medicine. As an oncologist, I want to make recommendations based on published data and science, of which there is little in the field of nutrition for veterinary oncology. There are so many ways to “feed the body,” to maintain health, decrease inflammation, and naturally promote healing for several conditions. For some chronic diseases, such as chronic kidney disease, nutrition is the main source of therapy! Unfortunately, for cancer, there is less data. Cancer is also diverse, with highly variable outcomes depending on cancer type and treatment modality chosen. With few publications showing proven benefits, I often feel I cannot make strong recommendations about dietary therapy for my cancer patients. It would be nice if more were known. However, Drs.     This book does not recommend one single brand of dog food or even mention a dog food. The lady writing the review most certainly did not read the book!! The book addresses natural foods containing high antioxidants and products like Omega-3. It guides you to prepare high protein foods , staying away from sugar and carbohydrates. It is the best book available to guide you in in the food preparation of excellent nutrients to fight cancer and prevent loss of weight including muscle mass . Absolutely, no dog foods sold on the market were mentioned. It’s only shortfall is not providing a chapter for home cooked meals.

    I breed Dobermans and I’m on my 4th generation of raw feeders. Very long lived compared to their littermates who go to homes that feed kibble. I was expecting to read about nutrition that will help dogs with cancer with specific recommendations of what to feed and eat to avoid. Instead, I feel as if this book is written by a large corporate dog food employee the way processed foods in general and specific name brands are promoted. Very disappointed.

    As a dog owner whose has gone through 2 dogs with cancer in the past, it is good to know that you can help during that period.
